Bruno Gecchelin
Within the galaxy of Italian lighting from the 1970s and 80s, some fixtures became bestsellers. Others achieved cult status. Still others transcended the era, leaving memories as powerful as their halogen light, then the panacea of the genre. Such is the case with Mezzaluna, a half-moon floor lamp designed in 1975 by Bruno Gecchelin, both an international bestseller and an absolute icon of Italian design.
Industrial designer Bruno Gecchelin, who in 1962 worked at Olivetti where he met Ettore Sottsass with whom he would collaborate for fifteen years, founded his own design studio in Milan in the mid-1970s.
With clients of the caliber of Arteluce, Venini, Poltrona Frau, Tronconi or O-Luce, he will lead numerous long-term collaborations such as the one established with Guzzini, crowned by two Compasso d'Oro, the Oscar of Italian design, awarded in 1988 and 2002.
